ELIZABETH CITY, NC (May 1, 2014) – Albemarle Hospital, its medical group and related facilities have adopted the naming structure of Sentara Healthcare, the new long-term operator of Albemarle Health, on Thursday, May 1, 2014.
“We put a lot work into these names,” said Kenneth W. Wood, interim president of Albemarle Hospital. “We want to respect and preserve the local identity while reflecting a strong new association with Sentara.”
Here is a sampling of new names on major divisions:
- Hospital: Sentara Albemarle Medical Center
- Medical Group: Albemarle Physician Services – Sentara, Inc. (Individual practice names have also changed)
- Outer Banks outpatient campus: Sentara Kitty Hawk
At Sentara, the term 'Medical Center' speaks to bolstering and strengthening quality and services. Previous name changes in Virginia have resulted in Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge and Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, all of which have become stronger institutions.
Most Sentara facilities and services begin with the Sentara name. Sentara branding is consistent, but flexible enough to reflect local identity and geography when appropriate and helpful to patients.
“Changing a brand involves culture and values and the patient experience as well as the logo,” Wood said. “I hope the team at Albemarle is as proud and excited as I am to be part of the Sentara family.”
An information campaign in area newspapers is introducing the Sentara brand and practice names to the community.
