Western Tidewater (May 2014) – Christina A. McDowell, MD, FACC, joined Sentara Cardiology Specialists in Western Tidewater.
Dr. McDowell has traveled back to Virginia to fulfill her goal of “joining a top-notch cardiology group” by joining Sentara Cardiology Specialists. Her arrival in Western Tidewater will further Sentara Heart’s mission to provide valuable access to cardiac services close to home.
Dr. McDowell earned her medical degree at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA, in 2004, along with her internal medicine internship in 2005 and her internal medicine residency in 2008 (chief resident 2007-2008). She completed her fellowship training in cardiology at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, MO, in 2011.
As an adult cardiologist, Dr. McDowell takes a proactive approach to the prevention and treatment of heart and vascular disease to include problems with the vessels, arteries or the heart itself. With an undergraduate degree in nutrition, a master's degree in exercise physiology, and her completion of a registered dietitian training program in 1996, she is even better positioned to be a partner in proactive, preventative care. Working with her patients, she will be able to help develop a personalized care plan that includes quality cardiovascular care and promotes a good, heart-healthy lifestyle.
Dr. McDowell is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology and internal medicine. She is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Heart Association, the American Society of Echocardiography and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology. She is also fluent in Spanish.
