At Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, our mission is to improve health every day. This is achieved through serving others, ensuring public accountability, transparency in reporting community benefit and the promotion of health improvements and access to quality healthcare.
In 2010, Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center provided more than $17 million to cover uncompensated patient care services — care provided for which no payment is received.
The Sentara Family Health Connection Mobile Clinics' fleet of two custom health vans is one example of providing access to quality healthcare services across the communities we serve. Nurse practitioners staff the vans to provide medical services to uninsured residents in the Woodbridge, Dumfries and Dale City areas. The first van was replaced in 2010 after more than 14 years of service with a new, much improved model purchased by the Sentara Auxiliary.
