Stephen D. Porter
Stephen D. Porter, President, Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center and Corporate Vice President, Northern Virginia, is responsible for directing Sentara Healthcare’s efforts in the Northern Virginia market.
Prior to relocating to Northern Virginia in January 2014, Mr. Porter served as President of Sentara Princess Anne Hospital and was responsible for the development and executive leadership of the Sentara Princess Anne Health Campus, a 72-acre, 710,000 square foot comprehensive healthcare campus, including hospital and medical office buildings, located in southern Virginia Beach.
In addition to his role as President of Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, Mr. Porter was responsible for leading the development of the Sentara care delivery network and model of care that will be utilized to support the management of senior populations throughout Hampton Roads, particularly through the Optima Medicare Advantage health plan product offering.
Mr. Porter joined Sentara in 1997 as an administrative fellow after serving in previous leadership positions in the insurance and care coordination industries. Since joining Sentara, he has served in various leadership roles, including health plan and hospital division leadership.
Mr. Porter graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from James Madison University and earned a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Medical College of Virginia.
He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Prince William County Chamber of Commerce and Prince William County Economic Advisory Committee. He has a long history of community service in Southeast Virginia and is becoming increasingly active in Northern Virginia.
