Radiation Therapy

Potomac Radiation Oncology Center (PROC) at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center continues to serve the growing population of Prince William County and surrounding areas. It is located in The Potomac Center on the hospital campus. PROC is staffed by board-certified personnel who have a broad range of experience in radiation oncology.

Advanced technology for cancer treatment
Our facility is equipped with an array of sophisticated technology that helps in the ongoing effort to improve accuracy of patient positioning and dose delivery. These include:

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) technology: a linear accelerator with dual energy photons and multiple energy electrons, multi-leaf collimation system and an automatic sequencing packet.

 Simulator with CT capabilities

We also feature technology that helps target just the tumor and not the surrounding tissues. This is critical, because when a patient breathes, the shape of the body changes. But with this technology, even when a patient breathes, the machine compensates, and only targets the tumor—not the surrounding healthy tissues. This technology includes:

 3D conformal treatment-planning

 Compensator based IMRT
