Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.
- John 15:13

Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.
– Diana, Princess of Wales

Religion without humanity is very poor human stuff.
Sojourner Truth

The life I touch for good or ill will touch another life, and that in turn another, until who knows where the trembling stops or in what far place my touch will be felt.
-  Frederick Buechner

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
-  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Chaplain Harper felt a call to ministry while still an employee of the federal government. In 2001, she received the Bachelor of Biblical Studies Degree (cum Laude) from Queen City Bible College, in Charlotte, N.C. After 37 years of federal service, she retired from her position as postmaster in Portsmouth, Va. She served on the staff of a local church as missions director before completing her residency in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in 2008. In 2009, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Va., with a Master of Divinity Degree. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Pastoral Skills at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary at the Charlotte, N.C. campus.

Lydia was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in 2001 by Great Commission Global Ministries. With more than 30 missions to Africa completed, she is still deeply involved in providing training to pastors and church leaders in the rural areas of East Africa. She is active in her church, where in addition to serving on the ministerial team, she is missionary to East Africa and the Hospital Chaplain. Her ministry goal is to introduce the ministry of Pastoral Care and Counseling and Chaplaincy in East Africa.
