Sentara was founded in Norfolk in 1888 as the 25-bed Retreat for the Sick, beginning our rich history in the Hampton Roads region. Today, Sentara is the largest integrated health care provider in the region, serving more than 2 million residents.
Sentara operates seven hospitals in Hampton Roads, as well as advanced imaging centers, nursing and assisted-living, outpatient campuses, a home-health and hospice agency, and a medical group. Sentara also offers medical transport ambulances and Nightingale, the region's first air ambulance.
