Defining Costs of Health Care

Quality and Pricing

Sentara now offers a pricing service where patients call to receive estimates for the cost of procedures -- whether or not they have health insurance.

While many pricing calculators available on the web provide an average cost to patients for common medical procedures, Sentara believes in providing patients with personalized, up-to-date pricing information.

After speaking to a customer care representative, patients will receive detailed information about the cost of their procedure within three business days either by phone or mail.

Price, however, is not the ultimate factor in making health care decisions. Quality of care ratings and reports are essential in evaluating health care.

Transparency in prices doesn’t mean much without also researching a hospital or physician’s track record. Just because an estimate is low, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best option for a particular patient. Similarly, the most expensive estimate isn’t the only factor to indicate the top option for care.

We hope you will use this information on quality and pricing to create the best health care options for you and your family.
