Purpose Statement The pharmacy informatics specialty residency is a 1-year program designed to foster knowledge and appreciation for the potential advantages and limitations of new technology used to gather and disseminate information within the practice of pharmacy in a vertically and horizontally integrated health care system.
Residents completing the program will gain experience with implementing pharmacy management objectives, drug-use policies, investigational services, pharmacy operations, clinical and decentralized pharmacy services, and meeting financial goals through the use of technology.
Orientation A brief, structured approach will be provided to familiarize residents with departmental procedures; introduce them to department management, administration, and support activities.
Stipend and Benefits A yearly stipend is paid to all residents, and a health insurance plan is provided. Residents receive two weeks of paid vacation and uninterrupted stipend during minor illness. Travel assistance is provided for continuing education events and other professional activities.
Application Applicants should submit the following materials to the pharmacy residency coordinator:
A current resume or curriculum vitae.
An application form
A list of professional references (including at least one from the applicant’s most recent pharmacy degree program) with addresses and telephone numbers; applicants should also have three professional letters of reference or reference forms submitted directly.
Transcripts of all pharmacy related education (copies of official transcripts are acceptable).
A cover letter indicating career goals, why advanced training is desired, and aspects of prior training that demonstrate preparation.
Typically, transcripts and references take longer to be completed than other application items. Applicants, therefore, are encouraged to initiate these first. Statements of grade point averages will be accepted conditionally to begin the file review, provided that transcripts follow. An on-site interview at the applicant’s expense is required. All interviews are by invitation.
