Colon cancer is the nation’s No. 2 cancer killer, but screening and early detection can change that outcome. Colonoscopy is the most reliable test for detection and removal of growths that lead to colon cancer. Patients approaching 50 years of age or with a family history of colon cancer, frequent polyps or inflammatory bowel disease, please contact your physician to schedule a colonoscopy. During a colonoscopy screening, your physician can detect and remove precancerous growths or polyps. Early detection and removal of colon cancer can prevent up to 80% of colon cancer deaths.
