From delivering babies to treating the health concerns of all women, women's health issues receive plenty of attention at Sentara Obici. We believe that the staff of our 21-bed Women's Center provides women and their families with care that is second to none.
Family-Centered Approach
Our LDRP, or single-room, approach to maternity care allows a woman to labor, deliver, recover, and spend her postpartum period in one comfortable room. Each room is softly decorated with lovely wallpaper and draperies. A cozy bedspread and a wooden rocking chair make it hard to believe that the latest technology is either in place or just footsteps away. Our family-centered approach allows your family to be as involved in the birth as much as you and your doctor agree upon.
Special Care for Infants with Special Needs
Sentara Obici's special affiliation with the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters insures that newborns that experience difficulty receive the specialized care they require. As a member of this neonatal network, Sentara Obici can immediately transfer critical infants to a neonatal intensive care nursery. Regular training sessions with CHKD nurses and doctors provide our nurses with the most up-to-date skills in caring for sick infants.
Health Education
Our maternal/child educator enhances Sentara Obici's women's services by serving as a source of information on issues of interest to women. A variety of childbirth preparation classes for the whole family are offered, and private consultation with the educator can address concerns needing more individualized attention. A special classroom in the Women's Center provides a meeting place for women seeking information on pregnancy, motherhood, fitness, aging, cancer and other illnesses, and many other subjects of particular interest to women.
For Women of All Ages
Women's health care goes beyond obstetrics. Sentara Obici's Women's Center cares for women who need inpatient care for a variety of gynecological disorders and other medical problems.
