Sentara Obici Hospital
Volunteers
Sentara Obici Volunteers add to the quality of the healthcare environment providing many extra services that supplement the care of the doctors, nurses, technicians and other caregivers. Volunteers help not only patients, but also families, visitors, the hospital staff and the entire community.
We are always eager to welcome new volunteers at Sentara Obici and have many opportunities to choose from. If you are interested in volunteering, the information that follows may be helpful to you.
For any questions about volunteering or volunteer opportunities, call David Pribble, Volunteer Director, at 934-4789.
Applications for volunteering are available at the Front Desk in the hospital lobby or from the Volunteer office. After the application is completed, an interview is held with the director and every effort is made to place the volunteer in an area where she or he has the greatest ability and interest.
Volunteers go through an orientation to introduce them to hospital policies and procedures. Training may be given by an experienced volunteer or hospital employee; depending upon the area of assignment. Special training may be required for specific areas, such as the Oncology Care Unit.
Volunteers wear uniforms while they are on duty, and there are several styles from which to choose.
We like to say "thank you" to our volunteers in many ways, and one way we do that is to offer free meals to volunteers while they are on duty. Once a year a special reception is held for volunteers, and twice a year a dinner meeting of the Sentara Obici Auxiliary, which includes the volunteers, is held. Recognition pins are also given volunteers upon completion of certain service milestones.
Our Volunteer Director will work with you to find your area of interest. We have volunteers in many diverse areas, such as assisting in the Print Shop, restocking Central Supply shelves, downloading computer information. There's a place for you at Obici!
Volunteering Opportunities Here are just a few of the volunteer opportunities available. If you don't see your particular area of interest, please call Kristen Sebura. She'll be happy to work with you.
