Post Surgery

Post Operative Care in Recovery Areas
Following surgery, your anesthesiologist (or nurse anesthetist) will take you to the Recovery Room.
A Registered Nurse in the recovery room will provide initial phase I post operative care.
When stable the patient will be escorted by the recovery room nurse to the Phase II recovery area.
The amount of time spent in recovery Phase I and II will be dependent upon the type of surgery, type of anesthesia utilized and your individual responses while awakening.
As your anesthesia wears off noises may sound louder than usual and your vision may be blurred. You may experience dry mouth, chills and pain/burning at your surgical site.
Do not hesitate to ask your nurse for medication.
You will be asked frequently about your comfort level as discussed during your pre-admission visit.

Discharge
You will receive final discharge instructions from your nurse. It is important for you and anyone assisting with your care to understand these instructions.
Your nurse will explain and demonstrate special instructions to aid in your home recovery and instruct when to call your surgeon for a follow-up visit.
Review of your “At-Home” medications will occur with your physician prior to discharge.
Make sure to keep your follow-up physician appointment(s) and follow diet instructions from your surgeon and/or nurse.
Please call your surgeon with additional concerns and questions.
