Occupational Therapy (OT)

Occupational therapists are registered and certified healthcare professionals who apply principles from the biological and behavioral sciences in the evaluation and treatment of individuals limited by physical or psycho-social injury or illness. Occupational therapists utilize everyday life activities, like bathing or dressing or cooking to help those with disabilities lead independent, productive and satisfying lives. Occupational therapists also address issues related to restoring gross and fine motor function and coordination, primarily of the upper extremity. When such an impairment hinders one’s ability to fulfill his or her occupation, or life’s role, OT may intervene with the use of specific treatment modalities including:

Activities of Daily Living Retraining
 Endurance Training
Gross and Fine Motor Coordination Activities of the Upper Extremity
Range of Motion Exercises of the Upper Extremity
Strengthening Exercises of the Upper Extremity
 Visual Perception Training
Wound and Scar Management of the Upper Extremity
