Clinical Pastoral Education Programs for 2008-2009

Resident Year of Clinical Pastoral Education

Program Dates: August 29 2008 – August 31, 2009

Time Requirements: Full time for 1 year plus some overnight on-calls, some evenings, some weekends.

Preferred Pre-Requisites:  Master of Divinity or equivalent and an introductory unit of CPE (ACPE, CAPPE or NACC).  The M.Div should be from an institution recognized by www.chea.org.

Application Deadline: There is no application deadline for U. S. Citizens or for international students with a current visa and work permit that is good through the end-date of the CPE program. Applicants are accepted on a rolling admission basis. See Admission Policy – Residency for admission prerequisites and criteria. Deadline for applications from international students (without a current visa and work permit) is January 15, 2008.

Stipend: $27,000 plus benefits

Part-time non-stipend units of clinical pastoral education are offered two times each year.

Program Dates #1: August 29, 2008 – February 28, 2009

Program Dates #2: March 1 - August 31, 2009

Time Requirements:  After two-weeks full-time initial orientation the program requires about 20 hours/week plus on-call -- some evenings and/or weekends -- and homework as assigned.    After orientation, a typical week would include classes from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays plus 12 hours of hospital ministry time.  Of the 12 hours of ministry time, 8 hours are scheduled during the daytime Monday - Friday, and 4 hours are usually spent doing rounds one evening per week from 5:00-9:00 p.m.

Preferred Pre-Requisites:  Completion of the equivalent of one year full time towards the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent, or a Bachelors or Masters degree in a field related to healthcare or the helping professions such as a BSN, MSW, or a masters in an allied health related field.  The degree should be from an institution recognized by www.chea.org.

Application Deadline: There is no application deadline for U. S. Citizens or for international students with a current visa and work permit that is good through the end-date of the CPE program.  Applicants are accepted on a rolling admission basis. Deadline for applications from international students (without a current visa and work permit) is 180 days prior to program start date.
