Sentara Endocrinology Medicine involves the diagnostic evaluatoin and treatment of a wide variety of diseases and the long-term management of disorders of deficiency or excess of one or more hormones. Most endocrine disorders are chronic diseases that need life-long care. Some of the most common endocrine diseases include diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, calcium and bone abnormalities including osteoporosis and vitamin D deficiency, pituitary disorders, male and female hormonal imbalances and certain hypertensive entities. Services provided include diabetes education by a certified diabetes educator (CDE), insulin pump therapy, thyroid ultrasonography on site, thyroid biopsy, bone density studies, licensed in radioiodine therapy, and nerve conduction studies.
