Sentara Ranks 5th Most Integrated Network
Sentara Healthcare has again been recognized as one of the Top Integrated Healthcare Networks in the United States, according to a 2007 ranking conducted by Verispan and published in the Feb. 5, 2007 issue of Modern Healthcare magazine. This year, Sentara netted the number five position, setting us apart as the only health care system in the nation named to the top 10 each of the 10 years the survey has been conducted. Versipan, a Chicago-based research firm, ranks health care networks, evaluating each based on performance, degree of integration and clinical success factors resulting in the highest level of care. View this year’s list of top integrated healthcare systems (PDF file).

Patient’s Story Appears in Ladies’ Home Journal magazine

The March 2007 edition of Ladies’ Home Journal magazine features the compelling story of Amy Kipnis, who gave birth at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital minutes before having emergency surgery to repair a dissected aorta. The protocol was designed on the fly, as two teams of physicians and nurses prepared for Amy’s arrival in an ambulance from Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Check out the article online



Sentara Heart Hospital Featured in Interiors and Sources magazine
Sentara Heart Hospital was featured on the cover of the March 2007 issue of Interiors and Sources, a magazine dedicated to excellence in commercial design. The article, Sentara Heart Hospital: Design that Heals, praises the 324,000 sq. ft. facility for the unique structural shape that allowed it to fit into the existing SNGH campus. The article also lauds Sentara’s vision, physician involvement in project development, state-of-the-art equipment, appealing interior lighting and the “wow factor” of the main lobby. Paul Findley, director of design development for the interior architecture group of Omaha-based HDR Architecture, Inc., said of Sentara, “It helped having a client that had the vision to want to improve the overall patient and visitor experience.” Check out the article.
