Sentara Princess Anne Hospital Approved
Virginia Deputy Commissioner of Health Dr. James Burns has approved a Certificate of Public Need (COPN) for Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach at 120 beds. Sentara originally applied to relocate 158 inpatient beds from Sentara Bayside Hospital to Princess Anne. Sentara plans to redesign Sentara Bayside into a robust outpatient campus after Sentara Princess Anne Hospital opens, reflecting current trends in usage. Until then, Sentara Bayside Hospital remains an active acute care hospital. Groundbreaking for Sentara Princess Anne Hospital is projected for this year, with opening set for late summer 2011. Sentara St. Luke’s Medical Campus Approved
In late February, Isle of Wight County Supervisors approved the rezoning for medical use only of a 42-acre tract of land in Isle of Wight County to be known as Sentara St. Luke’s Medical Campus. The project is expected to break ground in the fall of 2008. The permit would enable construction of a 48,000-square-foot medical office building that would expand and relocate services currently in Smithfield, including Smithfield Medical Practice, physician specialty offices; diagnostic imaging capabilities with mobile MRI and CT; physical therapy and rehab services; and an urgent care facility. Phase II plans include a second 48,000-square-foot facility that would house an Ambulatory Surgery Center, pending a Certificate of Public Need submission to the state.
