Sentara Obici Hospital Rose Garden Featured in Book
Photos taken last summer in the Sentara Obici Hospital rose garden are featured on the front cover and on page 97 of the book, Design Ideas for Home Landscaping, written and photographed by Catriona Tudor Erler of Charlottesville, who traveled the world in search of photos to feature. Published by a company called Creative Homeowner, the book costs approximately $20 and may be purchased in bookstores or ordered online from sites such as Barnes and Noble or Amazon.

Sentara Medical Group Reception
On February 26, a reception was held for Sentara Medical Group physicians at the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center in Norfolk. Four hundred people attended the event, including Sentara Medical Group physicians, their spouses, as well as many Sentara executives. The event provided an excellent opportunity for all to mingle and network. 

Sentara Ranked 5th Most Integrated Healthcare Network

Sentara has again ranked fifth in Verispan's listing of the nation's top100 integrated health care networks, published annually in Modern Healthcare magazine. Sentara has been ranked among the nation's top health care providers during all 11 years of the survey. Sentara Williamsburg Regional
Medical Center Hosts Program 
For the second consecutive year, graduate nursing students from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville traveled to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center in late January 2008 to tour the facility and attend seminars hosted by key staff members. The students heard presentations about the hospital’s success with quality and outcomes measurements, safety, disaster preparedness, and the Planetree philosophy of patient-centered care. They also enjoyed a panel discussion with hospital nurse managers.

Keep It Current Campaign
The Keep It Current campaign is a Sentara-wide effort to encourage employees to update their eProfiles on WaveNet. Keeping this data current will allow for timely receipt of benefits materials, tax documents and other information. Sentara employees, please take a few moments to check the accuracy of your WaveNet eProfile. If you have questions or need assistance, contact your human resources consultant. 

Sentara CarePlex and Port Warwick to be Tobacco Free
Sentara CarePlex Hospital, CarePlex West and Port Warwick announced they will become tobacco-free environments (TFE) on November 20, 2008, coinciding with The Great American Smoke Out. The Peninsula facilities are in good company as numerous Sentara buildings have elected to eliminate tobacco products in and around the workplace on that day including Sentara Corporate, Sentara Health Plans, Sentara’s Data and Recruitment Centers and Sentara Home Care, to name a few. Sentara Virginia Beach General, Sentara Bayside and Sentara Princess Anne all became tobacco free on January 1, 2008, with Sentara Leigh scheduled for July 4, 2008. Port Warwick and Virginia Oncology Hold Physician Program
An event held in mid-February 2008 provided an opportunity for physicians located at Sentara Port Warwick Medical Arts to meet and greet new physicians of various specialties from Virginia Oncology Associates who relocated to the campus in November 2007. Forty physicians attended the event.

Sentara Represented at Virginia Nurse Navigators’ Meeting
Sentara Oncology Patient Navigators from Sentara CarePlex Cancer Institute and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center met with navigators from around the state in February 2008 in Richmond for the first meeting of the newly formed Virginia Nurse Navigators organization. The Virginia organization will eventually be affiliated with the National Coalition of Oncology Nurse Navigators, also a new organization.

Sentara Health Plans Selects Chief Financial Officer
J. Andy Hilbert has been appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Sentara Health Plans. Most recently, Hilbert has served as Senior Vice President and CFO of Tufts Health Plan, a 700,000-member health plan in Boston ranked second in U.S. News and World Report’s 2006 and 2007 rankings of health plans nationwide. His start date with Sentara is April 15, 2008.

Sentara Life Care Administrator Named
Bruce Robertson has been named Division Head and Administrator for Sentara Life Care. Robertson has served Sentara Life Care Corporation in various roles since 1992, including Director of Finance and Vice President. With over 24 years experience in health care, he was instrumental in developing Virginia's first Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).
