Network Asks…How Do You Improve Health Every Day?

“I improve health every day by providing students with the necessary forms and information to help them be successful in their respective disciplines.

Sometimes we have students who are in financial need and cannot afford to continue school, so I help them by letting them know about other options like scholarships. I try to lessen their concern about the financial burden so they can focus on studying instead of worrying about how they are going to pay for school. When I see students graduate, it makes me proud that I was part of their success.

I like working for Sentara because it gives me the opportunity to further my own career. They provide great benefits like tuition reimbursement. They also take care of their employees and recognize their achievements. By working here, I feel I’m serving not only the students and the faculty, but also the community.”

“I improve health every day by helping to keep basic hospital services running smoothly. I work on HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems and repair pumps on boilers to make sure there is hot water for patients’ baths.

I do everything from changing light bulbs to unstopping toilets. I even do a little painting and drywall. I have always been a hands-on person who liked to fix things and here in Maintenance we do just about everything. We all work together to get the job done. I like working for Sentara because we have job security. I like the benefits here and the fact that Sentara is a major employer in the area.”
