LAP-BAND® Live Surgery Webcast Covered in The Daily Press
An article in the October 11 edition of The Daily Press featured Sentara’s third live web cast this year in which surgeons from Sentara CarePlex Hospital and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital performed an adjustable LAP-BAND® minimally invasive weight loss surgery typically used to treat obesity. The Press directed readers to view the surgery online 

Sentara Princess Anne Health Campus Anniversary Featured
An article in the October 7 issue of The Beacon entitled “Sentara’s Medical Campus Celebrates First Anniversary” discussed the high volume of patients treated at the free-standing emergency department at Sentara Princess Anne Health Campus. The Emergency Department saw 17 patients the first day it opened and today treats an average of 105 patients per day. A total of 30,000 patients have been treated at the facility during its first year of operation.

Sentara Quoted on CIO.com
Sentara’s Chief Information Officer Bert Reese was quoted on October 2, 2007 in an article on CIO.com about the effects of stress and lack of sleep on the brain’s creativity. Calling stress an “unnecessary distraction from his work,” Reese said he takes care to manage it with preventive measures such as exercise and downtime with family.

Sentara Bayside Sleep Disorders Center Featured in Pilot
An article in the September 28, 2007 issue of The Virginian Pilot entitled “Virginia Beach Sleep Center Helps Woman Rest Well after 25 Years,” praised the Sentara Bayside Hospital Sleep Disorders Center for curing a woman’s obstructive sleep apnea, a condition which troubles 70 percent of patients treated at the center.

Sentara Leigh Praised in The Washington Post
An article in the September 25, 2007 issue of The Washington Post entitled “Getting the Bugs Out – Area Hospitals Far Apart in Applying Infection-Control Measures,” cited data submitted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, stating, “Sentara Leigh Hospital reported that it gave 97 percent of its surgery patients preventive antibiotics in the hour prior to their operations ― the highest percentage reported in Virginia.”

Two Sentara Hospitals Recognized for High Organ Donation Rate
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital were recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as being among the nation’s largest hospitals for their success in increasing organ donation rates.
