Network Asks Employees: How Do You Improve Health Every Day?
“I improve health every day by providing compassionate nursing care and emotional support to my patients, and by serving as a patient advocate for them. As a registered nurse for 28 years – 14 of those in the cath lab – I have had many wonderful experiences working with cardiac patients. The greatest aspect of my job is helping to treat heart disease and to educate the patient and their family on how to manage their disease process. My goal is to make every patient feel a valued part of our health care team.”
― Rose Bailey, RN, Level II Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Sentara Obici Hospital Years with Obici: 28
“I improve health every day by being part of a cardiology STEMI call team that responds immediately to treat heart attack patients in the cath lab within a 90-minute window. Patients may need a stent, balloon angioplasty or other life-saving measure. I administer medication, monitor the procedure on the computer or scrub to assist the physician at the table, handing off wires and catheter balloons. I also help educate the patient afterwards about the importance of taking their medication and reducing other risk factors.”
