Sentara Bayside Hospital Auxiliary held its annual fashion show, luncheon and silent auction with proceeds supporting scholarships for Virginia Beach high school students interested in medical careers. The Auxiliary contributed $5,000 to the hospital’s Radiology Department for a piece of equipment to support a new MRI. Auxilian Roni Sharrett was selected Virginia Beach Humanitarian of the Year by the American Legion Post 110. Roni has provided 1,790+ hours of volunteer service to Sentara Bayside Hospital Auxiliary where she assists with check-in of patients and their families in the surgical waiting room. She was installed as vice president of the Auxiliary in May; Barbara Fosina was installed as president.

Sentara CarePlex Hospital Auxiliary
donated $50,000 to support the Dorothy G. Hoefer Comprehensive Breast Center, which opened in Port Warwick I in early April. Auxiliary members were honored at an April general medical staff meeting for their years of service and dedication to the hospital, and presented with two plants, which now adorn the Volunteer Office. The Auxiliary held a Volunteer Awards Luncheon to recognize members’ service. The Inaugural Golf Classic was held May 3, raising approximately $11,000. The Auxiliary will be holding a Fine Jewelry Sale, June 14 -15, in the Hospital Atrium from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. A scrapbook fundraiser is set for June 30. Sentara Leigh Hospital/Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Auxiliary celebrated Hospital Week, May 6-12, by offering employees 20 percent off their purchases in the Sentara Leigh Hospital, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Sentara Heart Hospital gift shops. The Sentara Norfolk General Gift Shop is actively recruiting volunteers to work one four-hour shift each week. If you know of a retired family member, friend or neighbor who would like to volunteer, and would enjoy receiving a gift shop discount, have them call Brenda Greene at (757) 388-3027.

Sentara Obici Auxiliary
volunteers were honored during National Volunteer Week with appreciation gifts, commemorative tree decorations featuring the names of all hospital volunteers and a cake cutting ceremony with Senior Vice President Rosemary Check. Sentara Obici Nurses were honored during Nurses week, May 6 – 12, with 10 percent off all gift shop purchases.

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital Auxiliary held an In the Bag fundraiser, April 10-11, raising $4100 for the Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital Fund. A fashion show, luncheon and silent auction on April 18 raised $9300 for the Beach Health Clinic. The annual Ace of Hearts Tennis Tournament was held May 4-6 and raised approximately $15,000 to support the hospital’s cardiac care unit. At a May 16 meeting, the Auxiliary awarded $76,000 to benefit numerous recipients, among them: stroke victims, the ICU department, Outpatient Medical Surgical Unit, Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, the Child Abuse Prevention Fund and the Coastal Cancer Resource Center. Funds were also allocated to purchase a new golf cart, staffed by volunteers that patrols the parking lot and shuttles patients and visitors in need of assistance to and from their cars.

Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center Auxiliary introduced a Pediatric Gift Bag Program this spring, providing gift bags to occupy and comfort children ages 8 and under who are admitted for an overnight stay. This year the Auxiliary is awarding scholarships totaling $5,500 to high school seniors who are pursuing a career in a health care field. A Leather Products Sale featuring purses, wallets, suitcases, etc. is set for Tuesday, August 7 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on the first floor of the hospital near the cafeteria.
