CIO magazine, a leading publication in the information technology industry, has recognized Sentara Healthcare with its CIO-100 Award. The annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).
Sentara Healthcare is one of four health care organizations to receive the highly coveted technology award. “We are truly honored,” said Bert Reese, Sentara Vice President for IT. “Technology is a critical aspect of patient care, and we take that responsibility very seriously. The exciting, progressive spirit among our IT professionals enables us to continue growing and developing dynamic health care processes.”
This is not the first time Sentara’s IT successes have been recognized. The organization also was named among the 100 Best Places to Work for IT professionals in Computerworld Magazine's 2004 national ranking. Sentara IT employees gave high marks for company morale, availability of training programs, benefits and pride in their jobs and the company.
2005 CIO 100 awards will be presented Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, California, on August 23 at the conclusion of the seventh annual CIO 100 Symposium® and Awards Ceremony. This year's award theme is the Bold 100, which recognizes executives and organizations that embrace great risk for the sake of great reward. Organizations that are bold are playing not just to survive, but also to win.

In its 18th year, the CIO-100 award has become increasingly competitive. Other winners include General Motors Corporation, NBC Universal and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Past award recipients include FedEx, DHL Express and The New York Times.
