Sentara Enterprises President to Retire

Norfolk, Va.June 22, 2006 – Sentara Healthcare announced today that Donald Jellig, president of Sentara Enterprises and vice president of Sentara Healthcare, will retire effective July 31. He has held both posts since 1985.

“Don has been a significant contributor during Sentara’s growth in the last 20 years,” said Rodney F. Hochman, M.D., executive vice president. “He led the team that formed Sentara Medical Group, helped establish Sentara’s presence on the Peninsula with the acquisition of First Care urgent care centers, and expanded Home Care services to Williamsburg, Suffolk, Hampton and Elizabeth City, N.C.,” Hochman said.

As head of Sentara Enterprises, the ambulatory division of Sentara, Jellig has been responsible for home care, hospice, durable medical equipment and medical transportation services. In his system role, he is responsible for compliance, legal services, the Virginia Beach Ambulatory Services Center, real estate and major construction projects. Jellig led the acquisition and development of 10 medical office buildings and four significant strategic construction projects totaling more than $300 million. These include the West Wing Bed Tower at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, Sentara Heart Hospital, the new Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center and the first two buildings of Sentara Princess Anne health campus in southern Virginia Beach.

“Don has been instrumental in the acquisition of key strategic sites and services for Sentara. We will miss his vision and leadership,” Hochman said.
Prior to joining Sentara, Jellig served as president of CHART Information Services in Albany, New York.

He has been active in numerous community and professional organizations, including the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Hospital Association and Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. He is past chair of the Virginia Beach Community Services Board, the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance and currently serves as chair of the Virginia Beach Development Authority.
