Grateful Family Gives Monthly to Sentara

Updated web feature makes online giving possible

Norfolk, VA – October 8, 2007 – Sheri Reynolds knows the $25 per week donation she’s been making for an entire year to Sentara’s Hospice Fund would make her dad proud. Reynolds’s dad, 73-year-old Glen Faughnan, was a man who couldn’t stop giving to others.
Reynolds contributions to Sentara have been used for medications not covered by insurance, electric bills, and other necessities hospice patients find hard to provide for themselves.
“It’s been very rewarding to give to Sentara, because they’ve let me know how the money has been used, and I can call my mom and tell her,” says Reynolds. “If you can say someone left a huge footprint before he left this earth, that would be my dad,” continues Reynolds, whose dad died last September after a valiant battle with cancer.
New Web Feature on Sentara.com Makes Online Giving Possible
To suit many donors’ desire to make contributions electronically, Sentara recently added the convenience of an online giving feature to its website. Now donors can make contributions more easily online using their credit cards. If they choose a more traditional method, a form is still available online for printing and mailing in their contributions. In the future, Sentara plans to add an automatic draft or transfer option to the website. Those interested in making in memoriam or other gifts can gain more information by visiting www.sentara.com/Sentara/AboutSentara/Foundation/WaystoDonate/.
“Families and patients often feel strongly about expressing their gratitude for exceptional care and the thoughtfulness of our very caring and giving staff. We’ve updated our website to make it easier for those families to make that decision from the comfort of their home,” says Gina Pitrone, executive director of Sentara Health Foundation.
“In a round-about way, I’m helping my dad continue giving to people who need it,” says Reynolds.
Grateful patients and families comprise one of the largest groups giving to Sentara through its health foundation. In 2006 alone, Sentara received more than 2,785 individual and corporate gifts. Anyone making a contribution to Sentara is free to direct funds to a variety of clinical areas including cancer, cardiac, hospice, trauma/emergency care, or areas of greatest need.
About Sentara Health Foundation Sentara Health Foundation was established in 1998, to improve health and quality of life and to further Sentara’s not-for-profit mission of serving the community. Philanthropic investments made to Sentara Health Foundation support the “margin of excellence” for programs, services, and facilities. The launch of Camp Lighthouse in 2006, a camp for children dealing with grief, was made possible through gifts made in memory of departed Hospice patients. In its first year, this very moving and beneficial weekend camp helped 50 children through the grieving process.
