Norfolk, VA – October 31, 2007 – Howard P. Kern will remain with Sentara Healthcare as President and Chief Operating Officer. It was earlier announced that Kern had accepted the CEO post at Iowa Health System in Des Moines. However, significant family considerations caused him to revisit his plan to relocate.
“I applaud Howard for putting his family first,” said David L. Bernd, Sentara CEO, “and I am truly pleased that Sentara will continue to be served by his executive skills and intimate knowledge of our system.
“Iowa’s loss is Sentara’s gain,” Bernd concluded.
Kern started with Sentara as an administrative resident in 1980 after earning a Masters degree in Hospital Administration from Medical College of Virginia.
