May 19, 2008 - Newport News, Virginia - Whether patients have severe leg pain, need vein access for dialysis or chemotherapy or want cosmetic improvements to spider and varicose veins, they can now turn to Sentara's first comprehensive facility on the peninsula specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular diseases and conditions.
The Sentara Advanced Vascular Treatment Center offers area residents state-of-the-art rapid assessment and treatment of venous and vascular disease in a convenient, patient-friendly, outpatient setting focused on quality care. This new center rounds out a full complement of patient services available at Sentara Port Warwick in Newport News.
“This expansion of outpatient vascular services to Sentara Port Warwick demonstrates our commitment to bringing the latest and technology closer to where our patients live and work,” says Marc Glickman, M.D. FACS, director of vascular services for Sentara on the Peninsula and Southside. “The facility now offers more innovative procedures from a convenient and efficient setting.”
The Advanced Vascular Treatment Center is the vision of Sentara’s vascular specialists. Part of the Sentara Medical Group, they are board-certified and fellowship-trained, as well as nationally and internationally recognized in minimally invasive treatment approaches, transplantation, surgical education and vascular research.
“This team of physicians is extremely talented,” said Dr. Glickman. “They are dedicated to the continuous improvement of treatment options and the delivery of quality patient care with the best clinical outcomes possible.”
Specializing in minimally invasive treatment for vascular disease, patients will benefit from alternatives to surgery and can enjoy improved recovery times and prolonged quality of life. The center provides diagnostic testing for vascular diseases, including Peripheral Vascular Disease - caused by a narrowing of the vessels that carry blood to and from the leg and arm muscles. In addition, the Sentara Advanced Vascular Treatment Center offers specialized laser treatment of varicose veins and non-invasive vascular studies.
“Our goal is to treat a patient’s vascular condition so they can resume or in some cases begin activities they enjoy,” adds Glickman. “Better quality of life is one of the best outcomes we can achieve.”
