Sentara Opens New Medical Facility in Gloucester

Sentara Gloucester Medical Arts will host a Community Open House on Saturday, March 15th, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

 GLOUCESTER, VA - February 4, 2008 - Sentara’s new medical complex in Gloucester is now open. Located off Route 17 at the entrance of the Gloucester Business Park, Sentara Gloucester Medical Arts houses several physician practices, including Gloucester Urgent Care, which opened for business on Saturday, February 2. Gloucester Medical Associates, Gloucester Obstetrics & Gynecology, and a satellite office for Williamsburg Pediatric, Adolescent & Sports Medicine open today.
“Sentara Medical Group has a history of providing medical services to the Gloucester community,” says Dr. David R. Maizel, Vice President, Sentara Medical Group. “The development of this medical campus offers patients improved access to these quality health services closer to their home or work.”
Employing a “timeshare” model that has been successful for access to specialists, Sentara Gloucester Medical Arts also provides flexible medical office space for General Surgery, Orthopedic, Allergy and Surgical Oncology physicians - with plans to expand specialty coverage in the future. Later this spring diagnostic imaging services to include ultrasound, mammography, bone density and x-ray will be available for onsite practices and outside referrals.
Gloucester Medical Associates & Urgent Care has been operating in the Gloucester community since 1997. Its Urgent Care features a walk-in clinic with extended hours, capable of handling outpatient procedures and minor emergencies; injuries; illness; and school and sports physicals, among other services. Sentara Gloucester Medical Arts will maintain its onsite lab services to expedite medical diagnosis and care plans.
“Relocating our facility from Hayes to the Gloucester Business Park allows us to design a facility that better meets the needs of our patients,” Maizel added. “Sentara is well positioned for future growth as the need for more medical services increases.”
The 36,000 square foot, two-story facility sits upon a 10.6-acre campus. Sentara’s long-term plans for Sentara Gloucester Medical Arts include two additional medical facilities to be built over time.
Gloucester Urgent Care accepts walk-in patients 9:00 am – 7:00 pm Monday-Friday and 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
