Chaplain Cochran began his career in Chaplaincy as an Adjunct Chaplain at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in 1985. He assumed his role as Chaplain for Sentara Leigh Hospital and Sentara Bayside Hospital in June 2000.
He has a Masters of Theology in Pastoral Studies from Trinity University. He did his chaplaincy internship in Clinical Pastoral Education at Maryview Medical Center. Chaplain Cochran has trained in Health Care Ethics at Saint Louis University, Center for Health Care Ethics, Joseph P. and Rose F. Kennedy Institute of Ethics, Georgetown University. He is a member of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, The Hastings Center and the Kennedy Institute of Ethics.
He is a member of the National Catholic Chaplains Association and is endorsed for hospital chaplaincy by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond Virginia.
Chaplain Cochran is active in community affairs, having served on the Mayors Taskforce on Homelessness for the City of Norfolk, American Heart Association Speakers Bureau, WHRO "On Our Own Terms" Community Forum and Catholic Charities Guardianship Advisory Board and currently serves as a volunteer Police Chaplain with the Virginia Beach Police Department. David is an active member or a local church where he is Liturgy Coordinator.
