"My ministry began when I was 16 years old as I entered a perpetual relationship and journey with God. This journey has included the revelation of the everlasting mercy and love of God, the sufficient grace of God and certainly His incomprehensible peace in my life. I have been stretched into places of sadness, hurt and pain. However, through it all I have come to know in my spirit that God has always been near. We each experience spiritual, emotional and physical suffering in different ways. My hope, prayer and passion is that I can walk with people in their spiritual search of ‘making their way to God.’ Transforming and transcending works of God into an ever-deepening love for Him, a keener awareness of worship, praise, self-worth and faith identity have touched me. He gives me a constant and calm delight regardless of circumstances." -Roger Gauthier (photo release on file)

Reverend Roger Gauthier, 1982 graduate of Emmanuel College School of Christian Ministries, has been a minister for the past 28 years serving a senior pastor, minister of Christian education and youth pastor. The divine impetus for Roger's love for institutional ministry began as he served with the Portsmouth Police Chaplains in the early '90s while pastoring a church. It was during this time of ministering to the homeless, domestically hurting and downtrodden that he was compelled into this calling. His father died with lung cancer in 1984 and these two experiences served as the catalyst that began his journey of passion towards ministering to those with life-limiting illnesses and companioning those who are grieving.

Roger became the Pastoral Care Counselor and Bereavement Services Coordinator for Sentara Home Care Services and Hospice Program in July 2000. In August 2008, he became a chaplain with Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.

He has completed his four-unit, one year residency at Bon Secours Medical System, with 1600 hours of clinically supervised Clinical Pastoral Education. He is a Board-Certified Clinical Chaplain with College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP). He is eccliastically endorsed with the Chaplain's Ministries, IPHC, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Reverend Roger Gauthier is very active in volunteerism, having volunteered for the Sentara Hospice Program for 15 months serving their spiritual needs before the Pastoral Care and Bereavement Coordinator became a full-time position and then becoming a Chaplain with Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. He has volunteered for the Virginia Beach Police Chaplains and Disaster Action Team Member with the American Red Cross and he is very active in his faith discipline in this sense as well.
