Common Billing Questions
What health insurance plans does Sentara accept or file?
Sentara Hospitals will file an insurance claim on behalf of the patient if insurance information is provided at the point of service or in a timely manner. Sentara Hospitals are participating providers with many insurance carriers both locally and nationally. There are some insurance carriers that Sentara Hospitals are not participating providers with and in those cases, the patient will be responsible for all unpaid balances.
Please note that it is the patient’s responsibility to know if their insurance company is contracted with Sentara Hospitals. If you are not sure, contact your insurance carrier for this information, otherwise, you may be responsible for all unpaid balances.
The health insurance companies listed below are ones with whom Sentara Hospitals participate or has a contract agreement. (Note: The list is not all-inclusive and is subject to frequent changes. Please check your insurance manual or contact your Benefits Administrator to ensure proper coverage.)
