Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital’s department of radiology offers several technological upgrades that have taken patient care to the next level. Since January 2003, the Voice Recognition System allows physicians to dictate their reports electronically, greatly improving the turn around time and accessibility of this vital information. Working in conjunction with PACS (Picture Archive and Communication System) that allows physicians to easily view digital images, and an online radiology information system, sharing patient knowledge has never been easier.

Another innovation is the use of CAD equipment to help radiologists spot breast cancer. This device flags possible areas of concern on the image, therefore providing a second set of “eyes” on the mammogram.
