 Welcome to the Sleep Disorders Center for Adults and Children of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Eastern Virginia Medical School. This nationally accredited program treats nearly 1400 patients annually with a range of sleep disorders by highly skilled medical professional physician partners. We recently expanded and now provide 10 sleep rooms and a driving simulator test.
We try to make your visit to the Sleep Disorders Center as comfortable and home-like as possible. As part of our expansion and renovation, all rooms have top of the line mattresses. Sleep rooms have also been enlarged for your comfort. The Overnight sleep studies last all night and record various functions like heart rate, breathing, brain activity and limb movement.
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Eastern Virginia Medical School evaluate sleep-related problems like sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, periodic limb movement disorder, REM sleep behavior disorder, restless leg syndrome, and more. In addition to our sleep evaluations, The Sleep Disorders Center conducts research through ongoing studies, including drug trials, to create pioneering advances and treatments.
The sleep center conducts driving simulator tests for patients with a variety of symptoms related to driving difficulty and excessive daytime sleepiness. The tests evaluate the driver's ability to perform on the road. Comparing normal drivers to those with possible driving problems, helps to determine the degree of risk while driving. The driving simulator test is conducted in a room near the sleep lab with monitors attached to the patient.
