According to the Society for Vascular Surgery, vascular surgeons are the only medical discipline trained to care for patients using every vascular treatment available. Vascular surgeons perform noninvasive diagnostic tests, medical treatments, minimally invasive procedures, and open surgeries when necessary. This expertise uniquely qualifies vascular surgeons to make the most accurate diagnosis and prescribe the best treatment for the best outcome.
Vascular surgeons at Sentara are trained to incorporate all these aspects into a patient’s medical care. Minimally Invasive = Minimal Pain for the Patient Sentara’s vascular surgeons operate using the latest advances in technology, including minimally invasive surgery (or laparoscopic) techniques. Benefits to patients include reduced trauma to the body, less blood loss, less postoperative pain, fewer complications, a reduced hospital stay and faster recovery times.
Sentara vascular surgeons also have many minimally invasive treatment technologies available to help restore the blood flow to the legs and feet of patients with clogged arteries from PVD. Find out more about these procedures.
