One in six men in the United States will develop prostate cancer, and the Sentara Cancer Network is dedicated to helping the men in our region, along with their families. Finding the information and care you need should be easy and convenient – and it is when you work with Sentara.
Talking about your options
Everyone in the Sentara Cancer Network is encouraged to coordinate their care with a patient navigator. This experienced nurse will help you explore your treatment options, including possible clinical trials, and connect you with support groups. He or she can arrange your care and help you prepare for it and recover afterwards. You will not go through this process alone.
The right teams with the treatments you need
Sentara is dedicated to patient-centered care, and you will experience one-on-one attention with your patient navigator and your doctor. A team of sub-specialty trained oncologic urologists, including board-certified, fellowship-trained specialists, and multidisciplinary genitourinary specialists will have the chance to review your information and make recommendations as well.
This group of specialists, working with Urology of Virginia and Virginia Oncology Associates, is recognized for researching and gaining approval for new chemotherapy options recently. The Sentara Cancer Network has always shown this level of commitment to leading-edge treatments, offering minimally invasive surgeries using the da Vinci robot and external beam radiation, cryoablation and seed therapy.
Somewhere nearby for care
The Sentara Care Network offers patients seven locations for treatments, making it convenient for you and your family. Wherever your home is located, you will find a care center close to you without having far to travel.
Care that will comfort you
The American Cancer Society presented the Hospital Patient Services Award to the Sentara Care Network for outstanding support to core programs. Several of our facilities have won awards for exemplary patient services and support. These awards mean that our patients can be sure that the staff goes above and beyond to anticipate and meet their needs.
