Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the country, affecting one million Americans each year.
If you are among these individuals, be patient with yourself. Every person reacts to the news that they have cancer differently: Be assured that there is no right or wrong way to feel. When you are ready, you will find that the people and technology that make up The Sentara Cancer Network are ideal resources to help you.
Someone to talk to
The first person you may want to talk with is a Sentara Patient Navigator. This nurse can locate a support group, review treatment options, including research trials, and discuss the care you’ll need before and after.
A whole team will be working with you
While you will interact regularly with your Patient Navigator and your doctor, you will also have a whole team recommending care. The Sentara Cancer Network includes teams of multidisciplinary specialists who talk with each other regularly and share information so that they can give patients the best care possible. Their goal is to exchange information on patients, learn from each other and apply their knowledge to helping patients in the best ways.
Somewhere nearby for care
The Sentara Care Network offers patients seven locations for treatments, making it convenient for you and your family. Wherever your home is located, you will find a care center close to you without having far to travel.
Care that will comfort you...
The American Cancer Society presented the Hospital Patient Services Award to the Sentara Care Network for outstanding support to core programs. Several of our facilities have won awards for exemplary patient services and support. These awards mean that our patients can be sure that the staff goes above and beyond to anticipate and meet their needs.
