Cardiac catheterization is a procedure that allows your doctor to observe how your heart is pumping. We can also examine your coronary arteries for sign of heart disease.

Cardiac Catheterization in Virginia

Cardiac catheterization labIf you have experienced signs and symptoms of heart disease, your doctor may recommend that you undergo a cardiac catheterization, or “cath.” Use our online tool to assess your risk of heart disease.

Your cardiologist performs the cardiac cath in an area of the hospital known as the cath lab (pictured right). During the procedure, your doctor identifies what is causing the symptoms of heart disease. We are looking for:

- Narrowing of the arteries
- Structural problems within the heart

Depending on the results of your cardiac catheterization, your cardiologist will discuss the plan of care for you. If you choose an interventional approach, your doctor will tell you about the several types of coronary interventional procedures.
