Since Sentara performed its first open-heart surgery in 1967, our heart program has strengthened with the powerful cadence of a healthy heartbeat. Today, Sentara's heart program is among the nation's best – not because we say so. Because the numbers prove it.

Heart and Heart Surgery services at Sentara Heart Hospital ranked among the top 50 hospitals in the nation in the 2010 America’s Best Hospitals edition of U.S. News & World Report magazine. Heart and Heart Surgery at Sentara Heart Hospital has been in the magazine's top 50 for 11 years. 

Sentara also posts a mortality score that is better than five of the top ten heart programs on the list. Sentara remains the only heart program in this region and only one of two hospitals in Virginia to be ranked by U.S. News & World Report.
