Diabetes education is offered at many Sentara sites. Patients can attend both group classes and individual sessions.
Group Classes Group classes are designed to help patients and their families learn the beginning skills needed to live successfully with diabetes. We encourage you to bring a family member or friend with you.

Individual Sessions Individual sessions are also available for people who prefer learning in a more private, personalized setting, or have special learning needs. We offer a variety of topics in individual sessions, such as:
- Carbohydrate counting
- Insulin starts
- Insulin pump starts
- Blood glucose meter training
- Meal planning
Some patients may benefit from attending both group classes and individual sessions.
Fees for group classes and individual sessions will be billed to all insurance carriers. Preauthorization may be required. Please check with your insurance carrier. A physician referral is required for insurance coverage.
