Candidates for a da Vinci robotic prostatectomy are those who have been diagnosed with clinically localized prostate cancer and who have a 10 year or more year life expectancy.
Patients should be educated regarding all treatment options including watchful waiting, surgery, external radiation, brachytherapy (seeds) and cryotherapy.
A urologist will generally make the diagnosis and counsel patients. Consultation with a radiation oncologist is also encouraged.
