Weight Loss Surgery Support Groups
Sentara recognizes that support is a key element of weight loss surgery. Whether you are a prospective weight loss surgery candidate, recently had a procedure or had it several years ago, our support groups are an important piece of a successful recovery. Weight loss surgery support groups are designed to help patients with some of the more common situations they may encounter following surgery. They are also a great opportunity for patients to meet, share their personal weight loss stories and find a common connection with others who have been through this unique and life-changing procedure.
Joining a Support Group for Weight Loss SurgeryPre-surgery patients are required to register to attend a Support Group.
Please call 1-800-SENTARA.
For post-surgery patients, registration is not required.

Weight Loss Health Tools
Sentara offers the following weight loss tools to help you keep track of your weight, monitor your heart rate and check how many calories burned from your daily activities and workouts. We have also provided a BMI calculator to help you determine how healthy your body weight is and if you are eligible for one of the many weight loss surgery options our weight loss program offers.
Calculate Your Body Mass Index (BMI)
Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women.
Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5 – 24.9
Overweight = 25 – 29.9
Obese = BMI of 30 or greater
Target Heart Rate Calculator
Your target heart rate zone (training zone) is the range between 60 percent and 80 percent of your maximum heart rate. Working within this zone gives you the maximum health and fat-burning benefits from your cardiovascular activity.
