  • Sentara Halifax Hospice and Palliative Care

Hospice offers medical, emotional and spiritual care to those in the final phases of a terminal illness. Funds donated to hospice are used to provide excellent end-of-life care to patients and their families regardless of their ability to pay.

  • Project PRIME

Project PRIME (Public Rally for Individual Medical Education) offers tuition assistance to people interested in pursuing a career in health care. Established in 1983 with contributions from residents and local businesses, Project PRIME awards funds to successful applicants wishing to become certified nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, radiology technicians, certified or registered respiratory therapists, laboratory technicians, nuclear medicine technicians, physical or occupational therapists and other healthcare positions. Funds may also be used for the further education of people already in the healthcare field of their choice. Since it was established, more than $1 million, interest from the PRIME endowment, has been awarded.

  • The Dr. Jesse J. Bates Scholarship

Established in 2003, the Dr. Jesse J. Bates Scholarship was named to honor the late Dr. Jesse J. Bates. Funds from the Dr. Jesse J. Bates Scholarship are awarded to graduating high school seniors in the Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital service area who are pursuing higher education in the healthcare field. The first recipients of the Dr. Jesse J. Bates Scholarship were named in the spring of 2004.

  • The Crowell Fund

Named in memory of long time Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital board of directors member Thomas A. Crowell Jr., interest from the Crowell Fund is used to purchase materials for use in the T. A. Crowell Jr. Memorial Library, Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital’s medical library.
