The Wound and Ostomy Clinic at Sentara Leigh Hospital provides state-of-the art treatment and comprehensive wound care to all our patients suffering from non-healing or chronic wounds. Diseases such as diabetes or vascular problems, medications, infections and poor nutrition can prevent a wound from fully healing. We offer comprehensive care for several types of chronic wounds, including but not limited to diabetic foot ulcers, diabetic neuropathic ulcers, traumatic wounds, pressure ulcers, and peripheral vascular disease or venous stasis-related ulcers.
Sentara Leigh Hospital has skilled, certified wound-ostomy nurses who specialize in detailed ostomy management. An ostomy is a surgical procedure that is either temporary or permanent diversion of fecal output or a permanent diversion of urinary output.
The Wound and Ostomy Clinic places tremendous emphasis on achieving clinical goals through collaboration, education and coordination with patients, families and healthcare providers.
We work closely with the referring physicians to develop an individualized treatment plan that would offer our patients the most optimal clinical outcome. We use quality measures to assess the progress of each wound and continuously adjust the treatment in order to attain the clinical goals.
Our team uses a multidisciplinary care approach. We collaborate with the referring physician to assure appropriate involvement of specialists such as vascular surgery, plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery, podiatry, infectious disease, endocrinology, pain management, physical therapists, and dieticians.
