The School of Practical Nursing is a one-year adult program. Mission Statement: Suffolk Public Schools Sentara Obici Hospital School of Practical Nursing is a community-based practical nursing program. The program offers a planned curriculum of instruction to educate an individual to be knowledgeable in the skills and abilities essential to practice, as an entry-level practical nurse, in a safe and effective manner.
Entrance Requirements: The following are required for consideration into the program:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate

Pre-entrance test required ($30.00 test fee).

Three references

Academic transcripts

Financial Aid transcripts

Completed physical

Criminal background check

Personal interview
Applications are accepted from June through October for the class that begins in February of the next year. Application Fee: $30.00. Twenty-Five students are accepted each year.
Graduation and Licensure : A student will be awarded a certificate and school pin when they have:
1. Satisfactorily completed the prescribed course in practical nursing
2. Met all requirements of the school
3. Met all financial obligations to the school
The graduate is eligible, upon payment of
required fees, to take the examination of the National Commission Licensing Examination in Nursing (NCLEX-PN) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
