EVP, Chief Clinical Officer

Michael Hooper oversees the vision and strategy for medical staff affairs, healthcare quality, and clinical process improvement in his Chief Clinical Officer role. He also oversees the development of graduate medical education initiatives, clinical education programs, academic affiliation agreements, and research programs.

Prior experience

Michael previously served as SVP, Chief Medical and Academic Officer from 2024 to 2025, and served as the Chief Medical Officer for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, between 2019 and 2024. After completing residency and fellowship training at Vanderbilt in 2011, Dr. Hooper began his career with Eastern Virginia Medical School as clinical faculty in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

He is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine for the Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. While in his clinical role, he served as the Sentara lead physician for Sepsis Quality Improvement and Critical Care Medicine Quality, chaired the Sentara Health EPIC order set governance committee, earned board certification in clinical informatics, and served as a Sentara Health medical director for medical informatics.
