Katherine A. Johnson, PhD, is president of Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, a 183-bed, not-for-profit community hospital in Prince William County, Va.
Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center's current service lines include primary care, emergency care, advanced imaging, cancer, diabetes, heart and vascular, orthopedics, urology, weight loss surgery and women's services extending throughout Northern Virginia and the greater Fredericksburg region.
Prior to her transition to president, Johnson served as vice president and chief operating officer of Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center. Before joining Sentara Healthcare, Johnson spent eight years as president of Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center in Thomasville, N.C. Her career also included serving as a chief nursing officer and vice president for patient care services for Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C, and vice president of patient care services for Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, N.C. Other experiences include serving as a director of nursing, assistant director of nursing, clinical nursing supervisor, and nurse.
Johnson holds a BS in Nursing and MS in Adult Health Nursing/Nursing Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo, an MBA from the University of South Carolina, and a PhD in Healthcare Administration from Kennedy-Western University in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
