Kurt Hofelich is the President of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Corporate Vice President, Sentara Healthcare located in Norfolk, Virginia. Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a 525-bed, Level 1 trauma hospital with helicopter air ambulance service and is one of 12 non-profit hospitals owned by Sentara Healthcare in Virginia and North Carolina. His responsibilities also include strategic planning and operations for the clinical service lines of cardiology, vascular, neurosciences, laboratory, pharmacy and outpatient rehabilitation for Sentara Healthcare. Kurt has served as the president of Sentara Obici Hospital, a 168-bed community hospital, developed hospital satellite and free-standing physical therapy and sports medicine centers, inpatient rehabilitation units, outpatient Advanced Imaging Centers, Cardiac Diagnostic Centers and free standing ambulance accessible emergency medicine centers. Kurt has been with Sentara Healthcare for 24 years.
Kurt received his Master of Science degree with distinction in physical therapy from Arcadia University in Philadelphia. He was the 1992 recipient of the Jane E. Carlin Award for academic excellence and clinical promise in physical therapy. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in education and exercise physiology from The Ohio State University. Kurt was team captain of the Big Ten/NCAA division one varsity volleyball team at Ohio State and was awarded the Big Ten Scholar Athlete Award for academic excellence and four-year letterman.
Kurt’s recreational interests include sailing, archery and do-it-yourself home projects.
