Dr. Chaudry Nasir Majeed, MBBS, FACP is a gastroenterologist, physician-educator, and academic leader. He currently serves as Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, where he also practices as a gastroenterologist.
Prior to this role, Dr. Majeed finished his medical school from King Edward Medical University and his internal medicine training at Jersey City Medical Center. Dr. Majeed completed his Gastroenterology Fellowship at Wake Forest School of Medicine, where he also spent a decade as an Academic Hospitalist. At Wake Forest, he served as education chair for the section on hospital medicine and a core faculty for internal medicine residency program. In these roles, he pioneered several educational innovations, including the Hospitalist Training Pathway and the Point-of-Care Ultrasound (PoCUS) curriculum, initiatives recognized with the NC-ACP Education Innovation Award and the Brooks Scholarship in Academic Medicine. His academic contributions include numerous contributions in JAMA, Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Drug Design, Development and Therapy, and Nutrients.
He has received multiple honors for teaching and mentorship, such as the William R. Hazzard Faculty Teaching Excellence Awards, Master Teacher Awards and Clerkship Best Teacher Awards.
Dr. Majeed is deeply committed to mentorship, having guided residents, students, and junior faculty into successful careers. His professional mission integrates clinical excellence, medical education, and innovative scholarship to prepare the next generation of physician leaders.
Asif Mahmood, MD FACP is the Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center. In this leadership role, Dr. Mahmood contributes to curriculum design, milestone-based evaluation, and faculty development. While serving as a chair of the Clinical Competency Committee, he plays a key role in Clinical Competency Committee activities, milestone evaluations and faculty development.
Dr. Mahmood is board-certified in internal medicine and practices hospital medicine as medical director of NoVA Hospital Medicine. His academic and clinical interests include quality improvement, optimizing care transitions, resident wellness, and consumer experience. With a strong commitment to medical education, Dr. Mahmood mentors residents in both inpatient and outpatient settings, emphasizing professionalism, effective communication, and evidence-based, patient-centered care.
Before joining Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, Asif Mahmood was an associate professor of medicine at the University of Toledo Medical Center, where he also served as Chief of the Division of Hospital Medicine, Vice Chief of Staff, Chief of Staff and also served as an elected board member with the University of Toledo. Dr. Mahmood completed his residency at Harlem Hospital, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons New York.
With more than 20 years of clinical and leadership experience, he has been deeply engaged in hospital medicine, patient safety, and systems-based practice. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Diplomate in Health Care Quality Management through the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. Dr. Mahmood is dedicated to medical education, teaching and mentoring medical students and residents. His research spans cardiology, gastroenterology, quality improvements projects and population health, with numerous publications and presentations.
Brittney Canada, BS, MPH Candidate is a dedicated Master’s student in Public Health, focusing on Global Health, with aspirations to become an epidemiologist. She is deeply passionate about supporting residents in reaching their full potential and fostering growth within the medical community. Outside of her professional pursuits, Brittney cherishes time spent walking with her son, getting lost in a good book, and nurturing her love for learning and helping others.

Dr. Shikshya Baral, DO is a physician at Sentara Hospital, originally from Nepal, whose inspiration to pursue medicine came from her mother, a dedicated nurse. Drawn to the fast-paced, acute setting of care, she now serves as a hospitalist, while also mentoring VCOM medical students. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her two children and dog. Whether walking the dog or adventuring with her kids, she values her work, family and an active lifestyle.
Dr. Rashid Nayyar, MD is the Chair of Critical Care Medicine and a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Sleep Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at SUNY at Buffalo and his Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at West Virginia University. Dr. Nayyar has over 25 years of experience practicing Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, INOVA Alexandria Hospital, and Fairfax Hospital. He has served as Chief of Medicine and Section Chief of Critical Care Medicine at INOVA Alexandria Hospital and brings extensive experience in teaching and mentoring medical students and residents.
Dr. Syed Jawad Noor, MD graduated from Allama Iqbal Medical College in 2002 and completed his Internal Medicine residency from University of Buffalo in 2010. Since then, he has been practicing as a hospitalist while actively engaging in medical education. He enjoys teaching and mentoring medical students, fostering their clinical skills and professional growth. Outside of medicine, he has a passion for chess, cricket, and card games, and enjoys relaxing with Netflix.
