Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital announces plans for new Community Health and Wellness Center
Major initiative to improve community health and wellbeing
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital (SMJH) is pleased to announce the plans for its new Community Health and Wellness Center, a vital step towards addressing the social determinants of health that impact our community. This initiative underscores the hospital’s commitment to addressing the diverse health needs of our community.
“We are very proud to embark on this initiative that will have a true impact on our community,” said Rita Bunch, President of Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. “As a hospital deeply rooted in serving our community, the expansion of our Community Benefits programming represents our commitment to addressing the social determinants of health and fostering a healthier future for everyone.”
Expanding Our Reach
Located in the Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital Downtown Outpatient Care Center at 920 E. High Street in downtown Charlottesville, the new center is strategically positioned to offer accessible care to all residents. This initiative is part of a vision to create an integrated care hub that is both welcoming and accessible to all.
“In 2023, we hosted more than 500 events and served over 10,000 community members through our programming,” said Tameka Irving, Community Benefit Manager. “These programs have a significant impact on improving health outcomes and quality of life for many people. The new Community Health and Wellness Center will allow us to expand these services further and provide new opportunities to support every member of our community, ensuring that we continue to meet their evolving health needs.”
